For each smartphone in our table below, we’ve calculated how easy or hard it is to fix yourself based on two factors sourced from DIY tech repair website iFixit.com: the proportion of the model’s repairs that are rated ‘easy’ or ‘difficult’ to carry out and the average time it takes to carry out a repair job.

% of easy repairs considers the proportion of each smartphone model’s repair guides on iFixit.com that are rated ‘easy.’ % of hard repairs considers repair guides that are rated ‘moderate,’ ‘difficult’ or ‘very difficult.’ Time to repair considers the average repair time per fix as given by iFixit.com. This section of the analysis considers models released between 2007 and 2022.
